Blaze DJ's

Mike Wessels

Considering that he was told often that he "didn't have a good radio voice" when he was breaking in, Mike has managed to use smoke, mirrors and a healthy amount of B.S. and stubborness to stay in the radio biz much longer than the week and a half that was predicted by the radio pundits of the day.

Mike is originally from Minnesota, which helps explain his manners, twisted sense of humor and the fact that you don't need to text him 19 times to confirm plans made yesterday. It also explains his intense dislike for snow, cold and ice scrapers.

Mike actually got into radio to do sports play-by-play, and still does a fair amount of that in the fall and winter. After a stint in Wyoming, where he learned to appreciate country music and what real cowboys are all about (it ain't about the hat & boots, it's about loyalty, honesty, work ethic and human decency), Mike made his way to sunny Ca. Quick stop working in Oroville, and then to Chico, where he continues to force himself to wake up at Stupid O'Clock in the morning to run the Blaze Morning Show.

To be honest, this has been a great ride! Love the music, love talking to listeners (either on the air or on location) and love the fact that it's lasted far longer than the week and a half that I expected it to last. Thanks for making this the funnest job, and I use that term loosely, that I've ever had.

Deija

Hey Blaze Posse!
I’m Deija, the newest DJ here at 103.5 The Blaze!

A bit about me: I am finishing up my final semester in the Spring of 2024 as a college student studying business at CSU Chico! When I am not consumed in the hours of studying I commit to, you can catch me chatting it up every Saturday from 2pm-7pm on 103.5 The Blaze!

I was raised in the gorgeous, misty streets of San Francisco, California, therefore I will always be a city girl at heart. Life in Butte County has been good to me and has welcomed me with open arms, even though I miss it terribly. Everywhere I go, I want to leave my mark and have an impact. "Grow where you are planted" is my favorite saying, and I live by it.

I have the best relationship with music, without a doubt. Being a DJ on The Blaze has allowed me to embark on adventures far in the world. Being on the Blaze has been such an incredible experience thus far, and I have developed a newfound passion for country music. I mainly listen to indie rock, synth wave from the 1980s, rap and hip hop, rock and metal, and pretty much anything that sounds good.

Elaina

California native, Elaina D. Smith has become one of the strongest female presences on Country Radio. While working at Entertainment Tonight and The Insider in L.A., Elaina found her true passion when she got an opportunity to work with the wildly popular Dave, Shelly and Chainsaw morning show. Elaina caught the radio “bug” and never looked back. After that, she hosted shows in San Diego, and Florida and Cumulus Media’s Mike McVay took notice. In 2014, he tapped Elaina as co-host of NASH Nights Live. Elaina starts her seventh year in syndicated radio as the solo host of Nights with Elaina in 100 markets.

Her last six years in Nashville were very busy as Elaina expanded her brand. From Red Carpet coverage of major award shows (all formats), to welcoming stadium crowds at Country Music Festivals, and participating on key industry panels, Elaina’s hard work has been recognized by her peers. She was recently named one of RadioInk’s 30 and Under Superstars. Elaina is also a two-time Gracie Award winning, CMA and ACM nominated broadcaster, who even added “actress” to her resume when she was asked to appear as herself opposite Hayden Panettiere on CMT’s drama Nashville. In 2018, Elaina launched her award-winning podcast, Breaking Thru with Elaina (formerly “Women Want to Hear Women”) a female focused podcast that has featured in-depth conversations with artists like Carrie Underwood, Dolly Parton, Trisha Yearwood and Maren Morris. Elaina’s podcast gives female artists a place to be heard on their experiences, and to have an honest conversation about the female airplay imbalance on Country Radio, and other industry areas where women have a tougher hill to climb. BTWE also celebrates the women who
are breaking thru and hopes to inspire those who are chasing their dreams.

In 2019, in addition to NASH Nights Live, Elaina launched a two-hour syndicated weekend product via Westwood One, called With Elaina. With the Country genre becoming more mainstream, Elaina chats with the biggest stars in Country Music about their life, pop-culture, nostalgia and so much more. She also highlights her own life and gives real perspective on whatever is happening in the world. Some of her celebrity co-hosts have included Garth Brooks, Thomas Rhett, and Keith Urban. When she’s not working, you’ll probably find Elaina with her rescue dog Zoey, or watching The Office on Netflix for the 278954234th time. If not, she’s likely at the gym, discovering
new music around Nashville, volunteering at her local animal shelter, at a Disney park, or covering a song on YouTube.

Kix Brooks

Kix Brooks was born and raised in Shreveport, LA where he hit the ground running and has never slowed down. He got into music at a young age which eventually lead him to Nashville where he started his career writing hit songs for other artists such as the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Highway 101, and John Conlee. In 1990 Kix teamed with Ronnie Dunn to form Brooks & Dunn, who are the highest selling duo in the history of country music. They sold more than 30 million records, won more than 75 major industry awards, and had 20 #1 hits during their 20-year run together.

In 2006 Kix took over the hosting reins of the long-running syndicated radio program, American Country Countdown, where every week he counts country music’s Top 30 songs.
